here's to a new year
of stars and dreams,
one that will
never
fail to make me realize
that not everything is etched in stone.
here's to a new world,
and whether i enter it
through a
wardrobe
or with open arms
is up to
me.

webs of sugar
the sun streams orange
at this time of
day;
dusk is colored by
a thousand
rays;
and my heart wants
to move a million
different
ways.

the wardrobe
snow covered mountains
meet with the sky,
followed by forests
and nighttimes
under the stars
magic so melancholy
it dampens all sound
and the heartbeat quickens
as you see what you've
found.

stimuli
it's always colder
when you know it's cold,
and the numbness
starts in your fingers,
then down to your toes,
until you watch quite complacently
the glass shatter apart,
but it's only real
after it pricks you - a thorn.
and the last traces of night
leave you forlorn.
when you know it's cold,
and the numbness
starts in your fingers,

cynicism
take what you can get
before the guilt can overcome,
grasp as many straws
as ever pass your way.
strew the roses
'cross the floor
and smile about the days
long gone,
for in every heart lies -
well, lies.
why wait
to waste them?
before the guilt can overcome,
grasp as many straws
as ever pass your way.
strew the roses
'cross the floor
and smile about the days
long gone,
for in every heart lies -
well, lies.
why wait

suspension
and the world you brought me to
was more than i dreamed -
devotion and strength
i could never have asked for
and i learned
about myself, you know,
that pain is half the cause
and that sacrifice is worth the loss
sometimes.
the world i'm in
is the one that should never be,
but i'm trapped watching reruns
of another place,
time,
game...
will i ever be up for the hunt?
was more than i dreamed -
devotion and strength
i could never have asked for
and i learned
about myself, you know,
that pain is half the cause
and that sacrifice is worth the loss

faces
from the outside
it all seems so surreal,
and i move and talk
and dance and shout
but they are all soundless actions
i see the strings
that pull the puppets
and drink the words
that make them blush
and wish
that somewhere i could be
part of it
but there is nothing that can mend this tattered hem.
it is missing,
perhaps,
gone and sad,
like a puppy without a friend.
or gone on a vacation,
where birds chirp
without end.
and i am happy for it,
for we are both better off.
still,
a missing part can never fill a whole.

an octave
in snows of winter far and gone
we play the diving music
and pray and hope that the other ones
have faired much better than we must think
for memories have faded
and long do we play
until our fingers first are sore
and then bleed out the reprobation and fear that we must forget.
and do i rejoice in a simple lonely life?
do i smile at those
whose lives i have seen taken
for the sole thought of a happy ending?
unless i am much mistaken,
the family is gone,
the good men dead,
and yet the music plays
on
on
on.

coffee
turbulent dreams
seize the innocent minds
and rend them from their reveries.
or is it the turbulent minds
who seize the innocent dreams
and tear them to shreds?
lest we forget our weakness
let us always feel regret
and weep
and sigh
over things that we have done.
then,
in the morning,
we can look back,
and know how changed
we are.

perro bien
aflame with too many colors to describe,
overwhelming and vivid
it darts in,
out,
then in again,
ready to dive into the unrelenting cesspool
of emotion.
is it a brave notion,
or a fickle one?
creating pain where bleeding hearts
never existed,
the amber-clad marionette stares us all
in the eye.
theatrics.
like i'd ever be help captive by that.

casket, basket, gasket...
it's full of red roses,
the basket you carry,
i know
because i've spent years getting to know them.
and then comes
the procession,
a recession, really,
back to the days before the roses bloomed.
but i can only be content
to wander aimlessly
within my head,
because i don't know what i should feel.
there is no burning here,
barely yearning,
simply anger,
and that is never so noble as they make it out.

brown eyes
your eyes
are so dull
that i could stare into them
all day
and never get bored
trying to find
some logical reason
why
why
why
they seem so bright
are so dull
that i could stare into them
all day
and never get bored
trying to find
some logical reason
why
why

they seem so bright

tv
i heard
that this was your type of movie
but frankly
i've never quite understood
the allure.
isn't it better
to learn how to love
than to stand around
and watch
it happen
on a screen?
that this was your type of movie

i've never quite understood

isn't it better

stars
i wonder
sometimes
if anyone is staring
at me,
wondering
why i'm so fixated
on the stars
when all
i'll ever need
is right
here.

if anyone is staring
at me,
wondering
why i'm so fixated
on the stars
when all
i'll ever need
